Breaking News

After nearly 15 years of fielding the question, "What is 'alternative dance,' anyway?," we're thrilled to announce that SFADI, the Seattle Festival of Alternative Dance and Improvisation, is changing its name! We're now SFDI, the Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation. Pronounce it the same old way (SFAHDEE) if you want, it's the same fabulous festival. Hope to see you July 27–August 3, 2008 for our 15th anniversary festival.

About Dance Art Group

Dance Art Group promotes the practice and appreciation of dance, movement arts, and somatic education in the Seattle area.

We produce the annual Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation (SFDI), formerly the Seattle Festival of Alternative Dance and Improvisation (SFADI), a full week of classes, jams, performances, and discussions. SFDI brings together a wide range of local, national, and international dance artists and movement educators to teach the over 100 students (both recreational and professional dancers) who attend the festival each year.

Learn more about the origins of SFDI.

We also produce a limited number of other workshops and events throughout the year that support innovative research and education in dance/movement. For example, since 2003 we have had workshops with Keith Hennessy, Martin Keogh, Nancy Stark Smith, Lisa Nelson, Steve Paxton, and K.J. Holmes.

Every spring we produce Bare Bones, a benefit performance featuring some of Seattle's best improvisational and contemporary dancers.

Check back regularly for updates.

We can be reached at (206) 686-7323 or send us a message.
